If you are wondering what the best Bluetooth sports headphones is, it may be hard to choose a brand because every product has its own pros and cons, perks and bummers. There’s what we call the cream of the crop, but it may or may not work great with each individual consumer’s preference. That being said, the Bose SoundSport Wireless may just be the best Bluetooth sports headphone currently in the market. Take note, it’s also Bose’s first ever Bluetooth sports headphone offering.
The popularity of wireless headphones became even more widespread when Apple Inc. took the headphone jack out of the iPhone. The AirPods became the top alternative for iPhone users but for the audiophiles who really want to get high definition sound quality, the Apple AirPods just won’t make the cut. Thankfully, there are other manufacturers that offer wireless headphones that can deliver a better sound quality like Bose. The company is known to be a manufacturer of premium music accessories in the US and one of its top offerings is the Bose SoundSport Wireless.

Bose SoundSport Wireless Design
Just like the original Soundsport wired, the Bose SoundSport Wireless is designed to be open. This means that you don’t need to jam the earbud into the ear nor do you need to seal the ear canal completely, not like those noise isolating in-ear headphones. The Bose SoundSport Wireless comes with Bose’s proprietary StayHear+ ear tips available in 3 sizes – large, medium and small. With the StayHear+ ear tips, the buds sit loosely in the ear while remaining securely in place.
Who are Bose’s true wireless workout earbuds for?
The Bose SoundSport Wireless is ideal for athletes and people who are always going to the gym for workouts because of the IPX4 certification. This pair of true wireless earbuds may be bulky but the proprietary Stayhear+ ear tips effectively keep the buds in place. The chances of getting the buds ejected unintentionally or accidentally are very low.
The Bose SoundSport Wireless can also be used as a dongle headset, a solid alternative for users with USB C only inputs. Despite lacking high quality Bluetooth codec support, the Bose SoundSport Wireless can still relay clear audio, adding to Bluetooth mobility and making them highly functional whether at the gym or at the office.
It is worth noting that the Bose SoundSport Wireless is a model that is equipped with a special sport version of the brand’s StayHear tips. These are different from the existing StayHear tips in the earlier versions of in-ear headphones that are interchangeable. The ear pieces also extend or protrude out from the ears, so if you are going for a discreet look or if you are wearing helmets, this might be an issue.
Even though the ear pieces of the Bose SoundSport Wireless are bulky, they are surprisingly light on the ears. However, it’s getting some flak in reviews because of the buds that tend to protrude out the ears. The size of the bud may be attributed to the battery technology that the Bose SoundSport Wireless is holding. We’ll discuss more on that later.
How to Wear Bose SoundSport Wireless
Headphones that can be considered as rivals of the Bose SoundSport Wireless include Beats Electronics Powerbeats 2 Wireless, Adidas Sport Adistar and Jaybird X2 Freedom. These headphones give users the option to shorten the length of the cord for those who are comfortable wearing the headphones closer to their neck. Meanwhile, with the Bose SoundSport Wireless, users can’t adjust the cord length but instead, it provides a clip that users can hook at the back of the shirt or in other strategic places that will prevent the cord from flopping out. It’s actually a pretty smart design and works well to keep the cord stable, even during physical activities like running, jumping or brisk walking.
The Bose SoundSport Wireless can be considered as a traditional pair of wireless in-ear headphones that comes with a neckband cable to incorporate a remote housing that goes partway down instead of having truly wireless, untethered earpieces.
Bose SoundSport Wireless – Ambient Sounds
Perhaps the only downside of the open and floating fit design of the Bose SoundSport Wireless is the fact that ambient sounds can leak in. The Bose SoundSport Wireless is not really a recommended headphone to be used in a noisy setting because it is not engineered to work that way. If you are looking for a pair of headphones from the same brand that can work well in noisy environments, we recommend the Bose QuietControl 30.
A silver lining to leaking ambient sounds is the fact that it can actually work as a safety feature for those who are biking or running while using the Bose SoundSport Wireless. This way, they’ll be able to hear cars drive by or trucks that are coming, a reason why bikers and runners prefer to use headphones with open designs such as the Bose SoundSport Wireless.
Bose SoundSport Wireless – Sweat and Water-Resistant
From the model name itself, the Bose SoundSport Wireless are coined as headphones that are really made for active individuals and sports enthusiasts. They are sweat and water-resistant, with an inline mic and remote that allows users to conveniently skip songs, take or make calls and adjust volume.
Bose SoundSport Wireless Connectivity
The Bose SoundSport Wireless also offers a very reliable Bluetooth connection that’s ideal for making calls. However, unlike the Bose QuietControl 30 and QuietComfort 35, the Bose SoundSport Wireless does not have features that can muffle wind, street noise and other ambient sounds.
Another bonus feature of the Bose SoundSport Wireless is NFC. If you are going to use an Android device with NFC, you can simply tap or touch the phone to the earpiece in order to get an automatic connection.
Bose SoundSport Wireless – Bose Connect App
With the Bose SoundSport Wireless, users can enjoy a free app for iOS and Android known as the Bose Connect. This app allows users to manage the pairing list, upgrade the device firmware and change the auto power off settings which is a great feature to increase the battery life and overall device performance. Upon turning on the headphones, a female voice provides battery life information and what devices have been paired with the Bose SoundSport Wireless.
Bose SoundSport Wireless Design
The Bose SoundSport Wireless has a savvy yet durable design that’s not offered by other wireless headphones. Its remote is very lightweight, leaving no room for the cable to be dragged down. The Bose SoundSport Wireless is very comfortable to wear and the soft silicone rubber hooks are engineered to trace the basic lines of the ear, providing a secure fit that’s ideal for the gym or for jogging around the park.
Is It Worth The Purchase?
Whether you are planning to purchase the Bose SoundSport Wireless as a gift to yourself or for a music lover colleague or an athletic family member, these cans are really delightful. In terms of audio quality, comfort, durability and overall performance, the Bose SoundSport Wireless gets our thumbs up; it’s one of our favorite wireless headphones to date. The best part is, the price of the Bose SoundSport Wireless is not as costly as its counterparts with expensive prices.
